A small ryokan in the wooded hills of Kawachinagano on the old pilgrimage route to Mt Koya, in a 1935 sukiya-style wooden building set in a large garden that the communal bath looks into. The rare combination here is a genuinely rural setting one minute's walk from Amami Station, about forty minutes from Namba; the water is a mild radium cold spring that has to be heated.

The baths

Indoor bath

Communal bath surrounded by the garden's greenery. Spring is a natural radium spring (simple weak radioactive, hypotonic, neutral, cold mineral spring). Overnight guests may bathe any time except 9:30-11:00.

Open to day visitors

In-room bath

The detached 'Seiryutei' villa has its own source-fed open-air bath, reserved for one group per day. There is no separately bookable kashikiri bath for other guests.

Overnight guests only

A private bath means nobody else is in the water with you — often the practical answer if the shared baths are closed to tattooed guests.

Day-use is by meal reservation only; bathing is free for meal guests during opening hours. Baths are closed for cleaning 9:30-11:00.
Day visit price: ¥8,800
IMPORTANT: bath-only day visits are NOT accepted. Day use means booking a kaiseki meal plan, which starts at 8,800 yen and runs to 11,000 or 16,500 yen depending on the course; the hot spring is then free for meal guests. Reservation required.

Getting there: A ryokan in the hills of Kawachinagano, southern Osaka Prefecture, on the old pilgrimage route to Mt Koya. The building was moved here in 1935 from a seaside bathhouse in Sakai. Tel 0721-68-8081.
