One minute on foot from Hankyu Arashiyama, with an open-air rock bath and a micro-bubble silky bath on the local 35-degree simple spring. The bath is walled in and the place is small for the crowds Arashiyama draws, but nothing else lets you soak this close to Togetsukyo Bridge.

Scored from official photos, maps and transport information — not from a visit.

The baths

Indoor bath

Indoor bath fed by the natural Arashiyama hot spring - a simple spring (hypotonic, weakly alkaline), 35.2 degrees at source, pH 7.80 - plus a 'silky bath' clouded with micro-bubbles.

Open to day visitors

Open-air bath

Open-air rock bath in central Arashiyama, with seasonal 'kawari-yu' baths (fruit and the like floated in the water) at times of year.
