Tattoos are not allowed in the shared baths, but you can bathe in a private or in-room bath.

The baths
Indoor bath
Two large bathhouses, 'Ukigumo-no-yu' (6F) and 'Kurumasawa-no-yu' (5F), each with an indoor bath and dry sauna. Open 5:00-24:00 (last entry 30 min before close); men's and women's baths are swapped.
Open-air bath
Terraced infinity open-air bath on 6F and a waterfall-view open-air bath on 5F, attached to the two large bathhouses. Same 5:00-24:00 hours.
In-room bath
ALL guest rooms have a private Shigaraki-ware open-air hot spring bath, included with the stay.
A private bath means nobody else is in the water with you — often the practical answer if the shared baths are closed to tattooed guests.

- About 90 minutes from Shinjuku to Hakone-Yumoto Station by Odakyu Romancecar, then roughly 20 minutes by local bus, or about 10 minutes on the free circulating shuttle bus from Gora Station. A car is not needed.
