OK in a private bath (overnight)

Can you bathe here with a tattoo?

This is the question we built the site around, so we answer it per situation.

Staying overnight

Yes, if you take a private bath

Tattoos are not allowed in the shared baths. A private or in-room bath is available, which usually means you can still bathe — but this has not been confirmed with the facility.

Not confirmed by the facility. We worked this out from the bath layout, so please check before you go.

Twenty-three suites on a wooded slope above Kowakudani, each with a private open-air bath fed free-flowing from the ryokan's own source. The shared bath faces the garden rather than a view, and the shuttle must be requested when you book.

Scored from official photos, maps and transport information — not from a visit.

The baths

In-room bath

ALL 23 rooms have a private open-air bath fed by the ryokan's own free-flowing (kakenagashi) weakly alkaline simple spring.

Open-air bath

Open-air bathing area on 1F of the main building with an indoor bath, outdoor bath and dry sauna. Hours 15:00-24:00 and 6:00-11:00. The official site does not state whether non-staying guests may use it.

A private bath means nobody else is in the water with you — often the practical answer if the shared baths are closed to tattooed guests.
