The baths
Open-air bath
'Kishu Shiokiki no Yu' - literally 'the bath where you listen to the tide'. An open-air bath with the sea directly in front of it, at the water's edge of a small private island, so the sound of the waves breaking is the whole atmosphere of the bath.
Indoor bath
Large indoor bath fed from the island's own sources - the inn holds six wells producing about 700 tonnes a day, and the water is 100% natural hot spring.
Private (kashikiri) bath
Private bath with both an open-air and an indoor tub, sea view, reservation required, 50-minute slots, from 3,300 yen including tax. Available 15:00-21:00 (last order) and 7:00-9:00 (last order).
A private bath means nobody else is in the water with you — often the practical answer if the shared baths are closed to tattooed guests.
