Kuroyu Onsen
黒湯温泉 · Nyuto Onsen
Can you bathe here with a tattoo?
This is the question we built the site around, so we answer it per situation.
Visiting for the day
The tattoo policy is not stated publicly. Please contact the facility.
Staying overnight
The tattoo policy is not stated publicly. A private or in-room bath is available, which is often an option for tattooed guests.
How it scores
Every onsen on this site is scored on the same five things.
The baths
Open-air bath
One mixed open-air bath plus a women's open-air bath; the source boils up beside the buildings and you can watch it steam. The beating-water (utase-yu) tub is the local favourite.
Indoor bath
Gender-separated indoor bath, open-air bath and utase-yu, plus an indoor bath in the ryokan wing; one mixed indoor bath as well.
Private (kashikiri) bath
Two private baths, Kame-no-yu and Tamahada-no-yu, 2,750 yen per group for 45 minutes (bathing tax extra). The site does not say whether day visitors can book them.
A private bath means nobody else is in the water with you — often the practical answer if the shared baths are closed to tattooed guests.
