The baths
Indoor bath
One of the four baths said to have been opened by the monk Ippen. Chloride spring, very high in metasilicic acid; the tub and floor are lined with bluish Towada stone. A bamboo cooling rig ('yumetake') drops the temperature without diluting the water. Bath, wash area and drains were renewed in 2015.

- ¥100This is a co-operative bath owned by local residents, so there is no ticket window. Outside visitors must each use one coin locker in the changing room and the 100 yen locker charge IS the bathing fee. Wear the locker key on your wrist in the bath. The offering box at the entrance is a donation, not the entry fee.

- In the Kannawa steam-vent district at 1 Kannawa Furomoto, on foot from the Kannawa bus terminal. No parking of its own - use the nearby municipal car park.
