A three-tier terraced bath hall on the fourth floor above the Toyohira gorge, fed by a 75C source hot enough that it has to be diluted before use. The two private baths, including the one looking into the gorge, only open at 16:00 and are in practice an overnight-guest option.

The baths

Indoor bath

Three-tier terraced bath with a lying-down tub on the middle level, fed by a 75C source (diluted with water because of the temperature). A steam bath uses the hot-spring vapour directly. All baths are on the 4th floor.

Open to day visitors

Private (kashikiri) bath

Two private baths - 'Sankei no Yu' looking over the Toyohira river gorge and the domed 'Meiso no Yu'. Booked by the hour in 50-minute slots, 16:00-23:00 (last start 22:00), 3,300 yen if booked by the day before or 4,400 yen on the day. The slot window opens after day-use bathing has already closed at 19:00, so this is effectively an overnight-guest option.

A private bath means nobody else is in the water with you — often the practical answer if the shared baths are closed to tattooed guests.

1,500 yen adult (junior-high and up) and 750 yen child (7-12), both quoted BEFORE consumption tax, so the amount charged is higher. Bath and face towel rental and a 500 ml bottle of water are included. Day-use is not available on some dates.

Getting there
At 3-239 Jozankei Onsen Higashi. No railway: Jotetsu Bus from Sapporo Station Bus Terminal stand 12 takes about 80 minutes, or about 40 minutes from Makomanai subway station. The hotel also runs a reservation-only courtesy bus to and from JR Sapporo Station which fills up quickly.
