Can you bathe here with a tattoo?
This is the question we built the site around, so we answer it per situation.
Visiting for the day
No — tattooed guests are turned away
Guests with tattoos are refused entry to the facility, so private baths are not an option either.

How it scores
Every onsen on this site is scored on the same five things.
The baths
Indoor bath
Several jet and bubble baths plus a plain hot-spring tub and a cold bath. Finnish loyly sauna, salt sauna and a steam sauna.
Open to day visitors
Open-air bath
Two themed open-air baths — 'Mori no Tsuboyu' (rock bath among trees) and 'Chikurin no Yu' (bamboo grove, lit up at night). They swap between the men's and women's sides every Monday, so which one you get depends on the week.
